Following the long hot summers we are increasingly experiencing in the Uk, we are looking at designing our gardens not only to be wildlife friendly with plants that are long lasting and colourful to attract Bees and Butterflies but also increasingly with a thought for drought tolerance!
Drought tolerant planting for wildlife
One of the key plants we use in many of our wildlife friendly gardens is Verbena bonariensis. This is a drought tolerant species that actually thrives in full sun and free draining soil. It flowers for months on end and is particularly attractive to Butterflies,Bees and Hummingbird hawk Moths!
This is typically biennial which ,means that the parent plants may not survive too many winters but it flowers and seeds prolifically and once established will continue to thrive in a hot dry border!
At Go Wild Landscapes LTD we think a lot about incorporating good colour combinations into our Wildlife friendly garden designs so A combination such as Sedum spectabile with grasses: helps create a naturalistic cottage garden style planting scheme.

Towards the end of summer many gardens are looking drab and the colour has gone, at Go Wild Landscapes we always add to the wildlife friendly garden design with plants that go on flowering to the first frosts. this includes Rudbeckias, Asters and Heleniums which while providing colour and joy for us are providing nectar for bees butterflies and other insects!
